The Norwich Women’s Club

Community work since 1907

The Norwich Women’s Club had its origin in 1907, as the Women’s Literary Club of Norwich.  Over all these years, the Club has promoted cultural, educational, civic and charitable aspects of life in Norwich.  Membership is open to all residents of Norwich and other interested persons.

To mark its 100th birthday, the club has donated a beautiful Town of Norwich sign at the Main Street entrance to the village.

Centennial activities have included a special program at the Fall 2006 general meeting, a cocktail reception at the opening of the Norwich Historical Society’s retrospective show on the club, installation of club banners on Main Street to mark special club events, and a final event to be announced for Fall 2007.

The Fall and Spring Nearly New Sales are clothing consignment sales organized by the NWC.  The sales benefit the Marion Cross Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to Norwich residents for post-secondary education.  Approximately $480,000 has been granted to students since 1963.

Floribunda, our popular spring flower show, benefits community projects that enhance the Town and benefit its residents.  Requests for funding projects may be submitted to the NWC Community Projects Grants program in April each year.

The NWC also maintains the flower garden in the triangle and publishes the Norwich Phone Directory.  Suggestions for new projects are always welcome.

In addition to fundraisers, the Club schedule includes a fall welcome meeting, a holiday gathering, and the annual spring meeting as well as other programs such as museum outings, author talks,  and hikes, All members receive a bi-monthly NWC newsletter and the NWC directory.  To learn more about the Club, email or write to the NWC at P.O.
